Moses Kotane Hospital

CMSA Accreditations: None

Rural Allowance: Yes

Doctors Quarters:

  • No comments yet.

Academics:

  • “Weekly CPD presentations, but often didn’t happen due to covid.”
  • District hospital, so not much in terms of teaching. Academics are in the form of weekly Friday CPD meetings for the whole hospital

Supervision:

  • Given a lot of space to work independently (most of the time), but there is usually someone you can contact (may not physically be there) for second opinion.
  • Not much supervision, you’re expected to work independently. But there’s always a senior MO you can call for help

Clinical Exposure:

  • Exposed to a wide range of conditions and trauma.
  • The casualty can get quite busy, so you can get exposure to many different types of conditions

Departments worked in:

  • Emergency Department, OPD’s
  • Internal Medicine, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Anaesthetics, Emergency Department, OPD’s – Most comm serves get to choose their preferred department (depending on the hospital’s needs and number of comm serves requesting that dept). Lots of cutting time in obs.

Social Scene:

  • Nothing really to do in the area (besides Sun City and Pilansberg, but they’ve been mostly closed with covid). For anything social/going out, you need to go into Rustenburg.
  • Non-existent! It’s a rural hospital in the middle of a village. Most people go to Rustenburg to shop and socialise (about 40 mins away)
