The Emergency Medicine Approach to Trauma (EMATT) course aims to provide a succinct, team-based approach to the trauma patient in the resource-limited environment, as well as in the resource-rich environment. With a focus on leading the team whilst treating the major trauma patient, patient safety systems and human factors play a major role in the learning.
This course has been designed to provide an alternate route to meet the trauma learning needs of the advanced provider in the South African and African context.

Audience
The course provides training for Advanced healthcare providers (Clinical Associates, Medical Doctors, Registered nurses and ALS paramedics).

Course content:
The course covers the spectrum of trauma presentations:
• Head, Neck and Spinal Trauma
• Shock and Shock states
• Abdominal and Pelvic Trauma
• Extremity Trauma
• Chest Trauma
• Resuscitation of the Trauma patient
• Pain management of the Trauma Patient
• Geriatric, paediatric and pregnant Trauma
• Spinal Motion Restriction
• Extended care of the trauma patient

Course materials
Students are granted access to the online student resources for EMATT (pre-reading and test for each learning area). The student is required to pass each test before arrival to the course. Access is granted for 1 year from enrolment in the course.

Certification
Students who successfully complete the EMATT Course will receive an AIEM Certificate of Completion and CPD certificate.
