Academics:

None. Questionable advice usually given from referral hospital.

Supervision:

  • No supervision. No senior doctors, no consultant input at all. Referral centre very hesitant to accept patients.

Clinical Exposure:

  • Lack of investigations (no functional xrays, no blood gas machine, blood results taking at least 16 hours to come out) often results in under investigation.

Departments worked in:

  • Emergency Department, OPD’s
  • Emergency Department, OPD’s – You work everywhere (male ward/ female ward/ TB ward/ paeds ward/ maternity ward)

Social Scene:

  • Very small town with no bars or anything to do at all. Hospital severely understaffed with very poor relationships between staff

Additional Comments:

  • If I had to repeat commserv and be placed there again I would rather decline the post as the only thing you learn is how to continue living despite being isolated and working at a very poorly functioning hospital and district.
