You might already start to consider different ways to further your education during your internship or community service. Some examples of ways to do this include: courses, diplomas, primaries, etc.
Furthering your education, especially with courses and diplomas, will not only significantly improve your patient management skills but also markedly increase your chances of getting a job out of community service. Many MO posts in specific departments require you to have completed the diploma in the relevant department. Likewise, if you want to find work in an emergency department you would do well to have an updated ATLS and ACLS at the very least.
Take note that some examinations require you to meet certain criteria before you can apply, for example, to have worked in a specified department for a specified amount of time, at an accredited facility. It is advisable to think ahead and start considering what diploma(s) you might want to do during or after your community service before you submit your community service applications.
