The hospital is trying to have weekly outreach programs, where consultants come from MPH to review patients, so far ortho comes biweekly and surgery once a week. Other than that no academics
Supervision:
Fellow colleagues are all very helpful but otherwise youre very independent
Clinical Exposure:
It’s a district hospital so bigger cases usually go straight to MPH or sometimes come via our casualty before referral. Otherwise + + advanced RVD, TB, CCF and broken bones. Also alot of SAM babies and ICAs
Departments worked in:
Internal Medicine, Surgery, Emergency Department – They’re currently rebuilding the theater so there is no cutting time at all, including C/S. There are no set dept. But wards are divided into maternity, paeds, male medical, male surgical and then female medical and surgical combined, and OPD/casualty. Mainly medical cases, not that much trauma besides the odd ICD here and there.
Social Scene:
1 hour from mafikeng, hospital surrounded by farm land
Additional Comments:
Not that hectic, you get time to do as many courses as you want, but it’s not really a stepping stone hospital in order to become a reg.
