“Weekly CPD presentations, but often didn’t happen due to covid.”
District hospital, so not much in terms of teaching. Academics are in the form of weekly Friday CPD meetings for the whole hospital
Supervision:
Given a lot of space to work independently (most of the time), but there is usually someone you can contact (may not physically be there) for second opinion.
Not much supervision, you’re expected to work independently. But there’s always a senior MO you can call for help
Clinical Exposure:
Exposed to a wide range of conditions and trauma.
The casualty can get quite busy, so you can get exposure to many different types of conditions
Departments worked in:
Emergency Department, OPD’s
Internal Medicine, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Anaesthetics, Emergency Department, OPD’s – Most comm serves get to choose their preferred department (depending on the hospital’s needs and number of comm serves requesting that dept). Lots of cutting time in obs.
Social Scene:
Nothing really to do in the area (besides Sun City and Pilansberg, but they’ve been mostly closed with covid). For anything social/going out, you need to go into Rustenburg.
Non-existent! It’s a rural hospital in the middle of a village. Most people go to Rustenburg to shop and socialise (about 40 mins away)
