Non existent. CHC was run by chronic MOs and comm serve MOs
Supervision:
No supervision. There’s really no one to bail you out when you struggle with a polytrauma resusc in the middle of the night.
Clinical Exposure:
Wide variety of cases ranging from gunshots to MVAs/ PVAs. Lots of chronic cases. Also has a maternity unit run by midwives. Able to assist with NVDs and ANC. CHC had an XRay department- able to do basic X-rays and ultrasounds. Radiographer was helpful and assisted with teaching ultrasound techniques.
Departments worked in:
Obstetrics & Gynaecology, ARV clinic, Emergency Department, OPD’s – Exposure to chronic Illnesses and ability to have close follow up on patients. High emphasis on disease prevention with receptive community. Outreach programs at smaller clinics in the area- able to assist with Health promotion at those facilities. Great for someone who would like to work with an underprivileged community. Very little support from referral hospitals
Social Scene:
“Deep rural area. No shops in the vicinity. Closest urban town is PMB- approx 1hour away- large malls/ car dealerships in PMB. “
Additional Comments:
“Great rural pay. Only work 1 weekend a month. Overnight call once a week, with post call the next day. On site accommodation at a minimal cost- little cottage with en-suite and lounge. Ideal for a couple applying together. Very scenic area- able to go on hikes/ mountain drives. Learnt a lot from the nurses at the facility who were extremely helpful and supportive. “
